PHILIPPINES – Canon has introduced three new products: the EOS R50 V, PowerShot V1, and RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ. These additions enhance Canon’s current offerings, incorporating video-focused features tailored for a new generation of creators.

“The PowerShot V Series and EOS V Series cameras are for Filipino creators with a growing enthusiasm for capturing life’s moments and creating enjoyable video content. These cutting-edge tools are designed with portability, ease of use, and high-quality output in mind. Whether it’s vlogging, livestreaming, or crafting short films, these cameras empower creators to elevate their storytelling with the versatility and reliability Canon is known for,” said Jian Liu, Director for Consumer Information and Imaging, Canon Marketing Philippines.

The EOS R50 V is an interchangeable lens camera featuring a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, akin to the Super 35mm sensor utilized in cinema devices like the EOS C70. It targets aspiring creators seeking enhanced operability and greater versatility in video production.

On the other hand, the PowerShot V1 marks Canon’s debut as a video-focused all-in-one compact camera. It includes a 22.3-megapixel 1.4-inch type sensor, which is about double the size of the 1-inch-type sensors typically found in most compact cameras. In addition, the PowerShot V1 is outfitted with an integrated zoom lens that provides a versatile 17-52mm equivalent field of view for video recording and a 16-50mm equivalent for still photography.

Video-Centric Ergonomics

The EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1 feature lightweight, sleek bodies without viewfinders, making them easily compatible with grips and gimbals. This design helps minimize user fatigue during extended handheld shooting sessions. Furthermore, the essential buttons are positioned for effortless one-handed operation recording.

The EOS R50 V features a new video-centric button and control layout, which includes a movie-focused mode dial and dedicated buttons that provide one-touch access to livestreaming and color modes. Additionally, there is a zoom lever designed for controlling lens zoom. This zoom functionality is also available on Canon's RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, the company’s first lens equipped with a built-in power zoom. Moreover, it is better suited for vertical shooting compared to its predecessors, thanks to a vertical shooting tripod socket on the side, an auto-rotating shooting information display, and an ergonomic grip design with an optimized button layout. These features enable users to easily start and stop recording while shooting in a vertical orientation.

The sleek and lightweight PowerShot V1 features an f/2.8 to f/4.5 ultra-wide angle zoom lens with a flexible 16-50mm equivalent focal range. This makes it perfect for various applications such as vlogging, livestreaming, creating reels, or producing short dramas and documentaries. Additionally, it is equipped with an internal cooling fan, similar to those in professional cinema cameras, ensuring effective heat dispersion for extended livestreaming and recording times.

Rich Creative Features

The EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1 offer numerous features that simplify video production, such as the Smooth Skin mode and 14 color filters. These tools allow users to enhance their video appearance directly from the camera. Furthermore, the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, the dedicated Movie for Close-up Demos mode, and Movie Digital IS enhance focusing and image stabilization, enabling creators to concentrate on their content.

Both cameras include recording modes tailored for more sophisticated post-production requirements, including 10-bit Canon Log 3. This format captures a broader dynamic range ideal for color grading and supports uncropped, high-quality oversampled 4K 30p videos, cropped 4K 60p videos, and slow-motion recording at up to Full HD 100p/120p. Additionally, these models feature still shooting modes, traditional PASM modes, and support for RAW image capture.

Enhanced Connectivity

In addition to connecting to the Camera Connect smartphone app via Bluetooth/ USB-C, both cameras can be used as webcams for live streaming with a single USB-C connection to a PC.

EOS R50 V: Powerful Professional Features

The EOS R50 V stands out as the first camera in its class to incorporate several features found in advanced EOS R Series cameras like the EOS R1. Key features include support for Custom Pictures and LUTs, two standard HDR video recording modes (HDR PQ and HLG), utilization of XF-HEVC S / XF-AVC S recording formats, and professional display aids like false colors. A new Slow & Fast Motion movies mode allows users to effortlessly create Full HD and 4K slow motion films, reducing speed by up to 1/5x and 1/2.5x, respectively.

Additionally, it enables 4K time-lapse videos that can speed up motion by as much as 60x. By combining this feature with color filters and the new Cinema View option- which sets cinematic angles and frame rates- users can craft stunning, film-like videos. The camera also offers Full HD recording at 100p/120p with audio, enhancing slow-motion post-processing capabilities. On the audio front, the EOS R50 V features advanced 3-mic noise reduction technology, which identifies and minimizes unwanted noise generated within the camera. It supports LPCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input, streamlining post-processing for projects with various audio sources, including interviews, outdoor dialogues, and concerts.

Users can use the Register People Priority mode to shoot stills and videos in busy environments like events, concerts, or sports.

Typically seen in more sophisticated camera models, this mode prioritizes the detection and tracking of pre-registered individuals. With support for UVC and UAC 4K 60p livestreaming through a single USB-C cable to a PC, users can effortlessly livestream concerts and sporting events. This feature ensures smooth motion and high-definition footage, perfect for large home theater displays. Furthermore, the EOS R50 V is compatible with the Live Switcher Mobile Multi-Camera app, allowing users to merge video streams from the camera with those from other smart devices for multi-angle livestreaming.

PowerShot V1: High-Quality Content in a Portable Package

The PowerShot V1 combines the video-centric concept of the PowerShot V10 with the versatility of the PowerShot G7 X Mark III—updated with a major boost in core features. With the new compact camera, creators can now shoot higher-quality images and enjoy better low-light capabilities. PowerShot V1 is equipped with a larger 1.4-inch type image sensor, powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for PowerShot, and a built-in 3-stop ND filter useful for recording video in bright conditions.

For video shooting, the PowerShot V1 has a native ISO range of up to 12,800, which is 2 stops wider than the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Additionally, a unique new Subject Tracking IS function utilizes the subject position to keep the subject stable in the frame during image stabilization.
