Manila, Philippines – January 23, 2025 – Lenovo has unveiled ThinkShield Firmware Assurance, enhancing its lineup of enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions.

This solution is one of the few computer OEMs offering extensive visibility and protection below the operating system (OS).

It utilizes Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) for component-level visibility, enabling the generation of more precise and actionable risk management insights.

Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) distinctly recognizes users and devices to provide suitable access levels, allowing businesses to function with reduced risk and streamlined operations.

It serves as an essential framework for minimizing risks as organizations work towards achieving Zero Trust implementations.

Visibility and Protection

Gartner forecasts that by 2026, only 10% of large enterprises will have a well-established and measurable Zero-Trust program, a significant increase from under 1% in 2023. Organizations frequently face challenges in assessing the risk posed by their hardware and firmware due to inadequate visibility of device components, further exacerbated in a hybrid work setting. The integration of ThinkShield Firmware Assurance enhances the security of enterprise PCs and their respective networks by design, aiding in achieving Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) objectives.

ThinkShield Firmware Assurance governs essential components through comprehensive attestation measurements that can be assessed and scored for risk, ensuring each device has its designated trust level. Unlike third-party software-based endpoint security solutions, ThinkShield Firmware Assurance utilizes a dedicated embedded controller (EC) to attest critical components and configurations at boot time, establishing a platform root of trust.

ThinkShield Firmware Assurance allows for rapid deployment, improving IT teams' visibility into their PC fleets and networks. This new security solution aids organizations in blocking the installation of software and firmware components that aren’t signed with recognized and approved certificates. Additionally, it prevents unauthorized modifications to BIOS policies and enables automatic recovery of these policies.

“Lenovo’s continued innovation in computing is delivering on its commitment to enable smarter AI for all, and cybersecurity is one of the most critical elements to how and where AI is adopted. This is a key driver in why we focused on supply chain, below-OS, and above-OS security,” said Nima Baiati, Executive Director & GM, Commercial Cybersecurity Solutions, Lenovo. “ThinkShield Firmware Assurance is a unique solution designed to help customers better manage and mitigate risk with more insight and confidence.”
