Manila, Philippines, 10 January 2025 - ZTE Corporation, a top global provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has partnered with DITO Telecommunity to transform the Philippines' network infrastructure by deploying TDD Massive MIMO technology. This partnership signifies a significant step in improving mobile connectivity and capacity nationwide.

Since its launch in 2019, DITO, the Philippines' third-largest telecom provider, has continually transformed the local telecom industry. It boasts over 7,000 physical sites, an 86% network coverage rate, and over 13 million active users. DITO is experiencing swift growth, especially in 5G services, outperforming competitors in speed and user experience. To keep pace with the surging demand for 4G, DITO is exploring innovative strategies to enhance its spectrum resources and network capacity.

In 2024, DITO comprehensively evaluated TDD Massive MIMO technologies, comparing 8T8R, 64T64R, and other configurations. After in-depth analysis, the 32T32R solution emerged as a better choice, offering exceptional performance and cost efficiency.

Game-Changing Pilot Results

Under the leadership of Mr. Vincent Zhou, Senior Advisor for Wireless and Network Planning at DITO Telecommunity, and with support from ZTE for rapid delivery and installation, the two companies initiated a pilot site in high-demand regions. Subsequently, the 32T32R deployment yielded remarkable results when compared to the 8T8R deployment:

  • 99% improvement in spectrum efficiency
  • 92% increase in average cell traffic volume
  • 75% growth in average connected users

These results underscore the transformative impact of TDD Massive MIMO on enhancing 4G network capacity while ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Scaling Up for the Future

Building on the pilot's success, ZTE and DITO are preparing to broaden the commercial deployment of the 32T32R solution. This initiative aims to ease congestion in high-demand areas while allowing DITO to fulfill the increasing connectivity requirements of Filipinos. The larger network is set to substantially improve spectrum efficiency, elevate user experiences, and bolster DITO's revenue and service objectives moving forward. The expanded network is anticipated to significantly enhance spectrum usage, boost user satisfaction, and assist DITO in achieving its financial and service targets.

"DITO is committed to providing cutting-edge technology that empowers Filipinos with fast, reliable, and accessible connectivity," said Mr. Rodolfo Santiago, CTO of DITO Telecommunity. "Through our partnership with ZTE, we're not just addressing current network demands—we're paving the way for a smarter, more connected future," he added.

Mr. Shi Bozhi, CMO of ZTE Philippines, echoed the sentiment, stating, "This partnership highlights our dedication to delivering innovative solutions that drive meaningful progress for communities and industries."

ZTE and DITO Telecommunity remain committed to empowering the Philippines with advanced telecommunications infrastructure. By leveraging cutting-edge technology such as TDD Massive MIMO, both companies are dedicated to building a smarter, more connected nation that meets the changing needs of Filipino communities and businesses.
